We’ve swapped our estate car for a campervan! It was just a van and we hired The Bristol Camper Company to convert it for us and they’ve done a stirling job. The kids love it and we headed To Burry Port in Wales to kite for our first weekend away.
Will messaged me to say the wind was up and to head to Pembrey on Friday for a lesson with another student, a guy called Steve. I didn’t know it then, but Steve would become my new kiting bestie and subsequently he has put up with me for months chasing the wind and watching me try to crack this sport as well as looking out for me on the water – thanking you my friend :)…
Steve is a diver, windsurfer, ex military, climber – you name it, he’s done it….
And yes he was up and riding after lesson 2 !! Not that I was slightly envious at all, but so typical. I had to pretend not to be that impressed, lols.
It was a fun session and I managed to go right. My lefts still need a lotta work….
Headed to Pembrey with Christos and David but the wind is too much, gutted!
Mauritius is absolutely the most amazing place ever. We have met a wonderful guy called Jean-Marie who is part of the Le Morne kiting school. He lives in Grand-Gaube and has agreed to coach us on his spot…which means shallow water and no other kiters, it’s paradise.
Most people head to Le Morne in the South, but this is something else.
And today, finally I’ve cracked it, I am up and riding…
The wind was up so I booked a last minute air b and b and headed to Poole Harbour with my bestie Kirst who also is going to give kiting a go (she had a bad ass hangover on the way down and I partied hard in London last night)!
Board starts today with Karl, they are so flipping hard, so many face plants, I can’t ever imagine being pulled out of the water. It’s been frustrating waiting for the wind, it’s on, then it’s off, then it’s back….we just need wind!!
I made good progress though, feeling happy AND I’ve booked a two week trip to Mauritius in August so I need to crack this asap!
Just had my first kiting lesson with Karl, it was amazing, I loved it, ahhh, feeling happy…Lots of screaming, but not quite as daunting as I thought. We spent a while going through safety, flying a trainer kite and then got out in the water in the afternoon learning to feel the kite and body drag. It was so much fun and I can see why people get totally hooked, I am hooked!! I hope my wake boarding skills will help with board starts, we’ll see….
I’m going out at 7am again in the morning, feeling tired but have to push through.
