Headed to Pembrey with Christos and David but the wind is too much, gutted!
Mauritius is absolutely the most amazing place ever. We have met a wonderful guy called Jean-Marie who is part of the Le Morne kiting school. He lives in Grand-Gaube and has agreed to coach us on his spot…which means shallow water and no other kiters, it’s paradise.
Most people head to Le Morne in the South, but this is something else.
And today, finally I’ve cracked it, I am up and riding…
The wind was up so I booked a last minute air b and b and headed to Poole Harbour with my bestie Kirst who also is going to give kiting a go (she had a bad ass hangover on the way down and I partied hard in London last night)!
Board starts today with Karl, they are so flipping hard, so many face plants, I can’t ever imagine being pulled out of the water. It’s been frustrating waiting for the wind, it’s on, then it’s off, then it’s back….we just need wind!!
I made good progress though, feeling happy AND I’ve booked a two week trip to Mauritius in August so I need to crack this asap!
Just had my first kiting lesson with Karl, it was amazing, I loved it, ahhh, feeling happy…Lots of screaming, but not quite as daunting as I thought. We spent a while going through safety, flying a trainer kite and then got out in the water in the afternoon learning to feel the kite and body drag. It was so much fun and I can see why people get totally hooked, I am hooked!! I hope my wake boarding skills will help with board starts, we’ll see….
I’m going out at 7am again in the morning, feeling tired but have to push through.
I just got home from an amazing weekend at the Armada Kitesurfing Festival at Hayling Island. It was epic…My pal Kirsten came with me, we hired a camper and had a ball. We ended up there because I’ve been working for a brand called GeoRush.com, which is a free, online resource for kite surfers that makes gauging the weather a breeze and provides specific weather ratings. A very cool bunch of guys and the website is awesome.
I’ve always loved water sports, wakeboarding, snowboarding. I did try kiting back in 2000 but back then the safety wasn’t that great, so I just flew the kite and used buggies on the beach. I have dug out a couple of old pics which brought back some memories…!
Kirst and I met so many amazing people this weekend, what a fab community of like minded people.
I watched everyone kite and for the first time in years I felt excited and motivated to give it a go! I met an awesome guy called Karl, the nicest person ever who is the Cabrinha UK Brand Manager…he tells me about Poole Harbour and he’s gonna give me a call when the wind is up…..I’m going to give this sport a whirl, eek!
